Curriculum Development

The curriculum development committee is formed to support other sub-committees in reviewing, modifying and improving education curriculum of the faculties. The committee meets once in a semester and if needed it conducts monthly meetings. Members of the committee include the following:

Chancellor as the chairperson of the committee;

  1. Academic vice chancellor as a member (in absence of the chancellor the vice chancellor chairs the meetings of the committee)
  2. Heads of the faculties as members of the committee;
  3. Heads of the departments as members;
  4. Heads of the students’ affairs departments as members;

Membership duration and how meetings are conducted:

  1. Members of the curriculum development committee are selected for a period of one year;
  2. Decisions of the committee are proposed to the University academic council for discussion and approval;
  3. Meetings are convened based on the academic calendar once per every semester. Extraordinary meetings of the committee can also be hold as required;
  4. Decisions in the committee are made based on the relative majority votes;
  5. Meetings are convened when half of the members plus one extra member of the committee are present;

Roles and responsibilities of the curriculum development committee include:

  1. To review and modify the University curriculum;
  2. To instruct and guide faculties’ curriculum development sub-committees to prepare needs assessment questionnaires;
  3. To instruct and guide the sub-committees to compare the curriculum with those of other regional and international academic institutions;
  4. To approve number of credits and syllabus for each semester as required;
  5. To request the sub-committees for their final reports for the needs assessment;
  6. To instruct sub-committees to assign tasks and duties for developing curriculum;
  7. To instruct sub-committees to review and make sure curriculum are fully implemented in each semester;
  8. To make appointments and meet experts for developing and improving the curriculum;
  9. Preform other tasks and responsibilities based on the bylaw and procedures of the committee;

Sub-committees of education curriculum development: 

The sub-committees of curriculum development at the faculty level is established to review, amend and develop the University curricula. The sub-committees meet on monthly basis. Members of the sub-committees include:

  1. Dean of the faculty as chairperson;
  2. One lecturer of each department holding a Ph.D. degree (or junior assistant professor) or a Master’s Degree (assistant professor) elected through a fair and secret election by the members of the departments;
  3. Head of the departments as members;
  4. Deputy dean of the faculty as secretariat; and in the absence of the chairperson he/she will chair the meetings;

  2. To prepare educational needs assessment questionnaire;
  3. To compare the University curriculum with those of other regional and international academic institutions in order to identify improvement areas;
  4. To recommend number of credits, syllabus and courses for each semester to the academic council for approval;
  5. To analyze, evaluate and consolidate educational needs assessment questionnaire and the final relevant report of it;
  6. To delegate tasks and responsibilities to the members of the committee for developing curriculum on time;
  7. To make sure curriculum is implemented based on requirements in each semester;
  8. To arrange meetings with experts and specialist to improve and amend the curriculum as required;
  9. To assign courses to each lecturer according to their professions and expertise and based on their schedules;
  10. To preform other tasks and duties as delegated based on the bylaw and the regulation;
